Mythical Pokémon Volcanion arrives at participating retail stores across North America and Europe via serial code distribution this October.
Special code cards for the level 70 dual-type Fire/Water Pokémon will be distributed in the U.S. from GameStop stores; specific locations in Europe are yet to be announced. This Volcanion will have the Ability Water Absorb and know the moves Steam Eruption, Flamethrower, Hydro Pump, and Explosion.
Volcanion’s description in Pokémon X and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire reads, “It expels its internal steam from the arms on its back. It has enough power to blow away a mountain.” In Pokémon Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby, its description reads, “It lets out billows of steam and disappears into the dense fog. It’s said to live in the mountains where humans do not tread.”
Volcanion is one of three Pokémon that was not made immediately available during normal gameplay for players. Diancie (#719) was distributed to players in May 2015 via the Mystery Gift option. Hoopa (#720) was distributed later in 2015 at participating McDonald’s via Nintendo Zone.
In the January 2016 issue of monthly Japanese publication CoroCoro Comic, Volcanion was featured, where it was revealed that the mysterious Pokémon would make a major appearance in Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel.
